The shrine's origins date back to 1180 CE (Jōji 4), when Sōtarō Ieie, the sixth-generation descendant of Musashi-no-kami Tsuguyuki, established a residence in Higashi-Honjo and enshrined the deity as the guardian of the estate. In 1590 CE (Tenshō 18), when Ogasawara Kamon-no-daiyo Nobumine became the lord of Honjo, the shrine, having been enshrined by the previous lord, received the highest reverence. The main hall was constructed at the current site, and the deity was transferred there. During the Meiji era, it was designated as a village shrine and named Wakasui Inari Shrine by the then Governor of Saitama Prefecture, Senke Mikifusa.
