History
Faith in the sacred peak of Mount Sumibei has existed since ancient times, and the establishment of a small shrine at the foot of the mountain is considered the origin of this shrine. In 1875 (Meiji 8), by imperial decree of Emperor Meiji, three deities were designated, and the shrine was enshrined as a Sochinju Goshha (Chief Guardian Village Shrine) in the center of the town. In 1986 (Showa 61), it was designated as a Betsubyo Jinja (a shrine listed in a special imperial decree). In 1992 (Heisei 4), the shrine was relocated to its current location with the construction of a new main hall.
