Founded in 1561 CE (Eiroku 4), it held influence during the Edo period as the betto-ji (head temple) of Hikawa Shrine, the protective shrine of Hagayama Village. Although all buildings were destroyed in the air raids of 1945 CE (Showa 20), the main object of worship, the statue of Fudo Myoo, and the statue of Kobo Daishi survived unscathed. After the war, the main hall was donated and relocated as part of the reconstruction efforts.
