Legend holds that Sasaki Kiyomori, who achieved military merit in the Battle of Fujido during the Genpei War, held a grand memorial service to mourn the fallen. During the Edo period, the temple became part of the Okazaki Domain's territory, and its precincts were developed. The main hall was rebuilt in the first year of Tenmei (1781 CE).
