Its origins are said to date back to when a palace was built on Mount Sainota by imperial decree of Emperor Ojin. It is known as a famous spot for wisteria, and a festival is held in early May.
What visitors say
The grounds feature a magnificent wisteria tree approximately 450 years old. In spring, the wisteria blooms fully, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenery reflected in the water and its fragrance. Parking is free, but caution is advised as parts of the road are narrow. The shrine office handles Goshuin (calligraphic seal stamps) requests and distributes pamphlets. A hiking trail to the Okumiya (inner sanctuary) is also maintained.
