Known as a landmark of Takasaki City, this is a 41.8-meter-tall statue of Hakui Daikannon (the Great Kannon in White Robes). It is also selected as one of the Hyakka no Terahana (One Hundred Temples of Flowers) in the Tōkoku region.
History
It was established in 1936 CE (Shōwa 11) at the summit of Kannon-zan (Kannon Mountain) based on the initiative of local entrepreneur Inoue Hosaburō. The statue is made of reinforced concrete and stands 41.8 meters tall. Inside, it enshrines a total of 20 Tainai-butsu (inner statues housed within the main figure).
