池に映える鳳凰堂の華やかさとは対照的な、堅実で美しい造りの観音堂です。屋根の曲線や飛天の彫刻など、細部まで見どころが多く、文化財としての価値を堪能できます。内部は耐震上の理由で拝観できませんが、遠目から眺めることができます。御朱印の授与もあり、周辺には博物館も点在しています。
