History
The shrine is said to have been founded in 648 CE (Taika 4). Its origin is attributed to migrants from Shinano Province who enshrined a branch spirit (bunrei) from Suwa Grand Shrine. During the Edo period, the Mizoguchi family of Niigata Domain relocated the shrine to various locations within and outside the castle, before moving it to its current site in 1688 CE (Genroku 1). The shrine buildings were destroyed by fire in 2001 but were rebuilt in 2004.
