History
The shrine is said to have been founded in 648 CE (Taika 4). Its origin is traced to a branch spirit (bunrei) of Suwa Taisha (Suwa Grand Shrine) brought by migrants from Shinano Province. During the Edo period, the Niigata domain's Mizoguchi clan relocated the shrine to various locations inside and outside the castle. It was moved to its current site in 1688 CE (Genroku 1). The shrine buildings burned down in 2001 but were rebuilt in 2004, modeled after their previous appearance.
