History

In 1495 CE (Meiō 4), a branch spirit was invited from Suwa Shrine in Shinshu and enshrined as the head shrine (sōsha) of Konoe-ura village. In ancient times, an upper shrine (Kammiya) and a lower shrine (Shimomiya) stood side by side within the precincts, and the shrine was formerly known as Suwa Daimyōjin. The torii gate, which was damaged by a typhoon in September 1991 CE (Heisei 3), was rebuilt in August 1994 CE (Heisei 6) through donations collected by a reconstruction committee.
