In 1599 (Keicho 4), the shrine was relocated to the area around Shimo-Keiko Village during the construction of Fukuoka Castle. In 1608 (Keicho 13), Kuroda Nagamasa constructed the current shrine buildings at the present site. It was designated as a Prefectural Shrine in 1916 (Taisho 5).
