History
Originally known as Shiroko-rin, this site is said to be where Eizan Shōkin built a simple hermitage. His disciple, Myōhō Sotetsu, is traditionally credited with founding the temple in 1312 CE (Shōwa 1). In 1688 CE (Genroku 1), three standing Kannon statues were transferred from the Kannon-do (Hall of Kannon) in Yada, Shiga-machi, Hanika-gun to Hozaiin.
