History
During the Daito era, a member of the court known as the Gohōi Shūyūin (a title related to the imperial court's ceremonial duties) constructed the shrine buildings, after which it was designated as a subsidiary shrine of Suwa Taisha. It was rebuilt in 1578 CE (Tenshō 6) by the construction team of Kami-Kihara Village, and underwent further renovation in 1842 CE (Tenpō 13). In ancient times, the roof was thatched with miscanthus grass, so the shrine was also known as Hagi-miya (Miscanthus Palace).
