History
The Doji clan established Doji Shrine to enshrine Toyouchi-no-mikoto. Later, Doumyouji Temple was built. During the Heian period, due to a connection with a visit by Sugawara no Michizane, the temple was renamed Doumyouji (derived from Michizane's title) and Tenmangu Shrine was simultaneously founded. Following the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in the Meiji era, the shrine was renamed to its current name, Doumyouji Tenmangu, in 1952.
