The shrine was founded during the Eisō era (1488–1501). In 1532 CE (Tenbun 1), it was moved to its current location by Nagaya Kageoki and became the guardian deity of Aiba Castle. Although the shrine buildings were destroyed by fire in 1688, they were reconstructed in 1691. In 1868, it was renamed Nagaya Gozu Tenno, but it was reverted to Nagaya Jinja the following year.
