Although the founding date is unknown, tradition holds that during the period when the Akai clan served as lords of Tatebayashi Castle, the deity was invited from Setoi Village and enshrined within the grounds of Tenpuku-ji Temple. In the 5th year of the Hohei era (1720 CE), the shrine was granted the posthumous rank of Sho-i-i. During the Meiji era, it was classified as a Ko-sha (village shrine).
