This Nichiren sect temple was founded in 1487 by Nichika. It was revived in 1682 by the nun Nichian, an elderly attendant of Oho-ra no Kata, a concubine of Tokugawa Tsunayoshi. Following Oho-ra no Kata's will, she was buried at this temple. Additionally, Matsudaira Kiyotake, the younger brother of Ienari, retired to live here, which led to the temple being regarded as one with ties to the shogunal family.
