This Soto Zen temple was founded around 1700 by the Great Monk Sekigyu Tenryo. Initially known as Yoryo-ken, it later adopted the name Yoko-in, transferred from a branch temple of Denshin-ji in Kanazawa Ward. The entire complex was destroyed in the Yokohama Great Air Raid of 1945 (Shōwa 20), and the temple relocated to its current location in Mitsuzawa Nakacho in 1948 (Shōwa 23).
