Amatarashi Shrine
〒770-0064 徳島県徳島市不動西町4丁目
A shrine located in Tokushima City, Tokushima Prefecture, long known as a deity for praying for rain.
History
The founding date is unknown, but it is identified as either the Wadatsumi Toyohime Shrine, a minor shrine listed in the Engishiki (a 10th-century codex) in Nagakata District, or the Amashimonbetsu Toyohime Shrine, another shrine listed in the Engishiki. In 883 CE (Genkei 7), it was granted the rank of Junior Fifth Rank Upper. There is also a theory that it was a shrine associated with the life of Amasu-hiko-kuniochi.
