Founded in 1324 by Kanzan Egen (the Great Master Muso), the founder of the Myoshin-ji school, to mourn his father. It was destroyed by fire and abandoned during the Battle of Kawagunakujira in the Sengoku period, but was relocated to Higashiyama and revived in 1937.
