Seiryu-ji (Blue Dragon Temple)
大津市長等1丁目4−23
Located in a valley north of the West Pagoda of Mount Hiei in the suburbs of Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, this temple is also known as Kurodani Seiryu-ji. It is a special sacred site of the 25 Holy Places of Honen Shonin and currently serves as a training ground for youth in the Jodo sect, spreading the faith of nembutsu (chanting the name of Amida Buddha) to the younger generation.
History
The founding of the temple is attributed to Ryogen (Daiji of Jiei), the head of the Tenda sect. Honen used this site as a place for the exploration of scriptures until the founding of the Jodo sect. However, the buildings were destroyed by fire during Oda Nobunaga's burning of Mount Hiei. In 1967 CE (Showa 42), it was revived as a youth training ground by Chion-in, the head temple of the Jodo sect.
