The San Dai Jitsuroku (Chronicles of the Three Reigns) records a Fuuhaku deity of the sixth rank, upper grade, in Iyo Province in 875 CE (Jogan 17). According to shrine tradition, a prince of Emperor Keiko enshrined a sub-essence from Ise Jingu (Ise Grand Shrine) in Iyo, and to protect the seas, enshrined the deity of Ryuda (the Wind God). Later, the lord of Saijo Domain, the Iryu family, relocated the shrine to its current site to ward off evil spirits from the northeast direction of the government office.
