The exact date of founding is unknown, but it is said to have been established in the late 12th century by Iida Goro Kaya, or to have received a sacred offering in 1293 CE (En'ō 1) by Iida Saburō Nobunobu. It is considered one of the Saba (Sadamahara) shrines scattered along the Sakai River. It was designated as a village shrine in 1873 (Meiji 6) and was used as a school building for Iida School around 1887 (Meiji 20).
