Aminami Shrine

藤枝市藤枝5丁目15−36

4.2(299)

An Shikinaisha (shrine listed in the Engishiki) located in Fujieda City, Shizuoka Prefecture, also known as Kawasei Daimyojin. Within the precincts enshrined are Kinzan Shrine and Nanatsu Mori Shrine.

History

It was enshrined in 318 CE (Nintoku 6) as the protective deity of Aminami Village. During the Sengoku period, in 1560 (Eiroku 3), the main buildings were destroyed by fire due to the incursion of the Takeda army, but the priests preserved the sacred objects. The shrine buildings were rebuilt in 1715 (Shotoku 5) during the Edo period. It was designated as a Kosha (village shrine) in 1873 (Meiji 6) and designated as a Heihaku Koshinsha (shrine receiving imperial offerings) in 1907 (Meiji 40).

What visitors say

There is a large torii gate along the prefectural road, and proceeding up the approach reveals the shrine buildings backed by a forest that creates a unique atmosphere. The grounds feature a temizuya (water purification pavilion) and a courtyard with bubbling water springs. The shrine buildings feel historic yet well-maintained. During the Fujieda Grand Festival, held once every three years, lively local dances are performed. Goshuin (calligraphic seal stamps) and omamori (amulets) with soccer designs are also available.
