It was enshrined in 318 CE (Nintoku 6) as the protective deity of Aminami Village. During the Sengoku period, in 1560 (Eiroku 3), the main buildings were destroyed by fire due to the incursion of the Takeda army, but the priests preserved the sacred objects. The shrine buildings were rebuilt in 1715 (Shotoku 5) during the Edo period. It was designated as a Kosha (village shrine) in 1873 (Meiji 6) and designated as a Heihaku Koshinsha (shrine receiving imperial offerings) in 1907 (Meiji 40).
