歴史

The enshrined deity appears in the myth of the transfer of the land from Izumo. Following the command of Amaterasu-Omikami, he requested the transfer of the land from Okuninushi-no-Kami. Together with Takemikazuchi-no-Ookami, he pacified Ashihara-no-Nakatsukuni (the central land of reeds) and returned to report to Amaterasu-Omikami. It was the Ichinomiya (first shrine) of the Shimosa Province. Before the Meiji era, it was enshrined with the title 'Jingu' (Grand Shrine). In 1942 CE (Showa 17), it was designated as a Chokusaisha (shrine receiving imperial visits).
