History
The founding date is unknown, but it is presumed to have existed during the Sengoku period, as it possesses a sacred grove (chinju no mori). Before the Meiji era, it was a combined shrine with Hie Shrine. Due to the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in the early Meiji period, the Ritsui-in temple, which served as the betto (administrative temple), was abolished. In 1872, it was designated as a village shrine (sonsha) under the modern shrine rank system.
