History

The origins of the shrine's founding are unknown. However, in the early Edo period, Takagi Kichiemon discovered a wooden statue and a mirror, which were enshrined as the sacred objects (shintai) when the shrine was established as 'Shinmeisha'. Approximately 200 years later, it was discovered that the mirror bore the inscription 'Mitarai-no-Kami, Iwaka-Mutsugumo-no-Mikoto'. In the second year of the Bunsei era (1819 CE), the shrine was renamed Takaya Shrine.

What visitors say

The approach path from the torii gate to the worship hall is straight and lined with beautifully maintained plantings, offering a beauty akin to a painting. While the parking lot is well-maintained, the shrine is located in a narrow mountain road area, so visiting by car is recommended. Seasonal attractions include Kawazu cherry blossoms, ginkgo autumn foliage, and bamboo lanterns at night, allowing visitors to enjoy scenic landscapes with unique charm.
