It is one of the 24 Engishiki-designated shrines in the Sanuki region, recorded in the Divine Name Register of the Engishiki (a 10th-century codex) from the Heian period. Originally located at the mountain peak, it was moved to the mid-slope around 1600 and then to the foothills around 1760. Fearing the wrath of local villagers, the main hall (honden) was rebuilt at the original summit site in 1831.
