In 1868 CE (Meiji 1), Hashimoto Takanosuke proposed the construction of both the Shinoda and Takayama shrines. In 1878 CE (Meiji 11), the shrine received official permission to use its current name. In 1879 CE (Meiji 12), the main hall was constructed on the mid-slope of Tenjin Mountain, and in 1880 CE (Meiji 13), it was designated as a prefectural shrine. In 1932 CE (Shōwa 7), the deity was transferred to the current location at the mountain's summit. However, in 2014 CE (Heisei 26), the worship hall and main hall were completely destroyed by arson.
