History
This Shingon Hyossan-ha temple was founded in 1683 CE (Ten'ō 3) by the monk Yūshin Sōzu. The temple flourished during the tenure of the 11th abbot, Yūju Dai-sōzu, who is said to have served as the head of the Senjuin sub-temple within Bōōji. In 1882 CE (Meiji 15), the temple buildings were repurposed as the schoolhouse for the Ashikaga Shūjō Shōgaku Nishi-kō (Ashikaga Common Elementary School West Campus), but the temple was rebuilt in 1898 CE (Meiji 31).
