The shrine's origins date back to the mid-Edo period, when a Mino provincial official, worried about his daughter's marriage prospects, brought a phallic-shaped stone from the Mutsu Province and erected a small shrine next to the Kasamatsu Magistrate's Office. During the Meiji era, the shrine was demolished to make way for a school, and the sacred object was buried underground. Rumors of divine retribution spread, leading to the object being dug up again. Between the late Taisho era and around 1930 (Showa 5), the shrine was relocated to its current site. In 2023, the shrine buildings were rebuilt with sponsorship from horse owners.
