Kamoegami-ji
〒432-8023 静岡県浜松市中区鴨江4丁目17−1 鴨江寺
A temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect, also known as Kamoegami Kannon. It is one of the stations for the Hamanako Shichifukujin (Seven Lucky Gods of Lake Hamana) pilgrimage.
History
It is said that the temple was founded in the Nara period when the wealthy farmer Imabori Choja requested the monk Gyoki to build a Kannon hall. During the Heian period, it was a Tendai sect temple, but later became a Shingon sect temple. In the Edo period, it grew into a large temple with a complex of seven halls. The temple was completely destroyed by fire during the 1945 Hamamatsu air raid, but the reconstruction of the complex was advanced after the war by the abbot Kenbe Kaion and others.
