The founding date is unknown. It was originally called Goshisha Shrine (Five Deities Shrine) and served as the guardian deity of Shikahone Village. There are theories that five families who settled in the area enshrined their respective clan deities together, or that five deities were invited to the shrine after the settlers felt the divine power at Kashimizuka (Deer Viewing Mound). During the Edo period, Enshoin Temple served as the betto (attendant temple). However, it was separated from the shrine during the Meiji period's separation of Shinto and Buddhism, and was designated as a village shrine in 1872.
