Rinshoin
〒113-0034 東京都文京区湯島4丁目1−8
A Rinzai sect (Myoshinji school) temple located in Yushima, Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo. It is known as the memorial temple for Kasuga Ono, the wet nurse of Tokugawa Iemitsu. It is also called Karatachi-ji (the Karatachi Temple) due to the living fence of Karatachi (Citrus hystrix) surrounding the grounds.
History
Founded in 1624 as a hermitage for Kasuga Ono, the wet nurse of Tokugawa Iemitsu. In 1630, the temple welcomed the monk Ikawa as its abbot and adopted the name Tenzakuzan Rinshoin, using Kasuga Ono's dharma name. During the Meiji era, the Philosophy Institute, the predecessor of Toyo University, was established within the temple grounds.
