A Jodo-shu Buddhist temple located in Hachioji City, Tokyo, also known as Pokkuri-ji. It is the 13th stop on the Hachioji 33 Kannon Pilgrimage.
History
Founded in 1558 CE (Eiroku 1) by Hojo Ujiteru. After being destroyed by fire, it was rebuilt by Ho Yo Raikyuu. During the Edo period, it served as the memorial temple for the Hachioji Sen-nin Doushi (a group of one thousand samurai police officers). The temple declined during the late Edo period, but plans for reconstruction were established by the end of the Meiji era.
