History
According to tradition, Kukai established the hall in 815 CE (Kōnin 6) and enshrined Yakushi Nyorai (Medicine Buddha) as the principal image. During the Tenshō period, the temple was destroyed by fire from the troops of the Chōsokabe clan. It was rebuilt at its current location in the Manji period (1658–1661 CE) after the merger with Zuiunji Temple.
