A standalone temple of the Shingon sect located in Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture. Its standing statue of Kannon Bosatsu (the Bodhisattva of Compassion) from the late Heian period and its main hall from the early Edo period are designated as municipal cultural properties.
History
It is said to have originated from Hanada Ikeura Kannon-ji (Hanada Lake Shore Kannon Temple), founded by the monk Giki by imperial decree of Emperor Shomu during the Tenpyo era. Although the various halls were destroyed by fire during the military campaigns of Oda Nobunaga, the current main hall was built at its present location in 1652 CE (Keian 5). Akimoto Tajimamori was a devout believer and is recorded as the major patron (Odan-nyo) on the ridge plaque of the hall.
