Aizu-Shinmi Kumano Shrine

This shrine is said to have been enshrined by Minamoto no Yoriyoshi in 1055. The Nagaya (long veranda) built in the Shinden-zukuri style during the late Heian period is designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan.

The grounds feature impressive shrine buildings that evoke a sense of history, including the Nagaya designated as an Important Cultural Property and a worship hall with a thatched roof. Within the precincts stand a large ginkgo tree and a large zelkova tree, both boasting an age of 800 years; especially in autumn, the golden carpet-like autumn foliage is a highlight. An admission fee is required for worship, but Goshuin (calligraphic seal stamps) are available, as well as omamori (amulets) featuring the Yatagarasu (three-legged crow).
