History

Founded in the mid-Muromachi to early Sengoku period, the shrine was established by the castle lord Chiba Suitsune, who invited the deity from Suwa Grand Shrine to ward off evil from the Kaimon (northeastern direction) of Akatsuka Castle. It served as the guardian deity of Shimoakatsuka Village. Around 1630, the Ten Rasha Nyos (Ten Demon Women) were enshrined as subsidiary deities, but they were removed during the Meiji era's separation of Shinto and Buddhism.
