It is presumed that the shrine was built because Ena Kageyoshi, the lord of Kushihara Castle who served under Ena Toshiyoshi, the lord of Meichi Castle, governed the villages of Yoshimimi and Sarumetsu. It is believed to enshrine the same deities as Akechi Hachimanji Shrine.
