Amida-ji (Head Temple of the Dainichi Sect) North Gate, Also Known as the Yakui Gate

The temple's origins date to the mid-12th century when Minamoto no Yoriyoshi, the ancestor of the Ashikaga clan, established his residence. In 1196 CE, Ashikaga Yoshikane built a private Buddhist hall, and in 1234 CE, Ashikaga Yoshitsune organized the temple complex, establishing it as a family temple. During the Northern and Southern Courts period, it came under the jurisdiction of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu. In the Meiji era, the main hall was designated an Important Cultural Property, and in 2013, it was elevated to National Treasure status. Additionally, because it retains traces of the Ashikaga clan's residence, it was selected as one of Japan's 100 Famous Castles in 2006.
