History
Enshrined as the guardian deity of the Date clan, the shrine was moved to its current location during the construction of Aoba Castle and was known as 'Yuhi Meishin' (Sunset Deity). Fearing disasters such as flooding and landslides in the 6th year of Tenpo (1835 CE), it was pacified and enshrined at its present site downstream. In the 11th year of Taisho (1922 CE), the Koshi Shrine of Yagiyama was merged into this shrine.
