Ōtomo Moto-mori and others came from Ise Province and established the shrine as the new Kōbe (port/branch). During the Edo period, the shrine was located within Yoshida Castle, and it is said that Tokugawa Ieyasu visited to watch the Oni Matsuri (Demon Festival).
