In 939 CE (Tenkyo 2), after Ootomo Yasuhira prayed for the pacification of the Kanto region and his spiritual power was recognized, Emperor Suzaku donated the Ankumi Estate to Ise Jingu. At that time, Oowakatsukasa Motomori and others came from Ise Province to establish the shrine as a new branch (Kanda) of Ise Jingu. During the Edo period, the shrine was located within Yoshida Castle, and it is said that Tokugawa Ieyasu visited to watch the Onimatsuri (Demon Festival), and shrine lands were donated to it. In 1885 CE (Meiji 18), the shrine was relocated to its current site, and in 1951 CE (Showa 26), it adopted its current name.
