Founded in 1563 CE (Eiroku 6) by Onkai Shunba as a branch temple of Risseiji. In 1582 CE (Tensho 10), during the Honno-ji Incident, it was placed under a ban along with the other seven temples of the Inaba Hakkaji by Saito Toshitaka.
