The founding year is unknown. It was originally enshrined at the summit of Mikuni-dake Mountain but was later relocated to the foothills. The shrine buildings were destroyed by fire in Meiou 2 (1493 CE) and Ansei 3 (1856 CE), but were rebuilt in Hōreki 11 (1761 CE) and Ansei 3 (1856 CE), respectively. It was designated as a village shrine in Meiji 7 (1874 CE).
