During the Meiji period, in accordance with the Order for the Separation of Buddhism and Shinto, the village shrines Komori Jinja and Kodanomiya Jinja were moved into the precincts, and the shrine was renamed Asahi Shrine. Although major structures were destroyed in wartime fires, they were rebuilt in 1953 thanks to the enthusiasm of local parishioners. Subsequent renovations have led to the current appearance of the shrine grounds.
