History
Founded in 807 CE (Dōtō 2) during the reign of Emperor Heijō, the shrine buildings were rebuilt in 1186 CE (Bunji 2). In 1193 CE (Kenkyū 4), the suishinmon (gates for the accompanying deities) and statues of the Vajra warriors (kongō riki-shi) were erected by Tada Yoshimori and Hatakeyama Shigechika, who had received the land as a grant from Minamoto no Yoritomo.
