It is said that Emperor Keitai, while residing in Echizen Province as Prince Ohoatsuse, enshrined the spirit of Omiya. From the Kamakura period onward, the shrine was highly revered by the warrior class, and during the Edo period, it enjoyed deep respect from the lords of the Fukui Domain. In 791 CE (Enryaku 10), it was granted the court rank of Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade. It is recorded in the Kuni no Miya Myojoho (Register of Shrine Names) as Ashiha Dai Myojin with the rank of Shoichi-i.
