Ashikaga Orihime Shrine: Enmusubi-zaka (Love Match Slope)

Boasting a history and tradition of over 1,200 years, this shrine serves as the guardian of all industries in Ashikaga. It enshrines a branch spirit of the deity enshrined at the Oori-den (Weaving Hall) in the Ii district of Ise Province. Since around the 13th year of the Meiji era (1880), it has been venerated as a deity of love matches, symbolized by the interlacing of warp and weft threads. The current shrine buildings were completed in the 12th year of the Shōwa era (1937). In June of the 16th year of the Heisei era (2004), the shrine was registered as a Tangible Cultural Property of Japan.
